Guest Lectures

Guest lectures are a prominent and integral part of MILE's industry oriented curriculum. MILE provides various opportunities to its student managers to interact with the eminent and renowned personalities from different sectors and industries. Guest lecturers provide an insight to the contemporary trends and practices in the dynamic world of business.

Students have been given an insight into different aspects and functions of a business unit like Marketing, Sales, Finance, Human Resources, Operations, and Information Technology . Eminent people like CEOs, Country Heads, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Directors, Regional Heads and Zonal Heads of different companies like TATA Quality Management System, Morgan Stanley, HSBC, Edelweiss, Suzlon, Microsoft, Syntel, Royal Bank of Scotland, Credit Suisse, Deloitte, Reliance etc. to interact with the future managers. From the very first day of its inception, MILE has been witnessing the presence of business leaders like Rajat Mathur, Country head Morgan Stanley; Sunil Sinha, CEO TATA Quality Management Services; Sundeep Kriplani, MD Credit Suisse, to name a few. Apart from that various scientists, Research Heads, Directors of eminent universities also blessed students with their presence.

Mr. Ajay Arora

The Vice President HR (India) of Royal Bank of Scotland, Mr. Ajay Arora, was invited to the MILE campus to conduct an interactive session with the students here.

He spoke about HR as the key function of administration of any organization. He shared the experience of his journey, spanning over 10 years, from a management trainee to a Vice President and the ups and downs that came along with it. He indeed tested the knowledge of student managers through various creative activities and questionnaires in which students were put in different situations in order to evaluate their logical skills and decision making abilities in crucial times.

He opened an entirely new horizon for the students and made them realize that in today's global market scenario it's not only what u study in your b-schools but how you implement this knowledge is what gives you that differential advantage.

MILE gave an opportunity to its students to interact with the legendry director of India's biggest telecom service provider BSNL who was previously associated with MTNL as well.

He spoke about the history and evolution of telecommunication in India as well as the expansion and emergence of BSNL. He was the man who started STD PCO service in the Indian telecommunication sector. He shared his work experience with the students and emphasized that one should be ready to take risks as it is the very foundation of all success stories. He also encouraged students to inculcate leadership qualities and risk taking abilities in order to achieve the ultimate success.

We felt blessed to get this once in a lifetime opportunity to interact with someone as esteemed as Mr. Dube.

Mr. Philip Mothi

The students of MILE got an opportunity to interact with the HR Head of Global Work Force Management, Cognizant Technology Solutions Mr Philip Mothi.

The main objective of this lecture was to provide the student managers an insight on the different operations in a technology solution provider organization. It was an engaging session as Mr Mothi covered all the major functions of the organization which in itself was not only very educative but also impressive as Mr. Mothi himself is from the HR. Apart from being information packed this session was also very interactive with Mr. Mothi keeping the floor open to questions throughout.

Mr. Sohan Modak

The student managers of MILE were given the once-in-a-life-time opportunity to interact with the Eminent Scientist-Engineer of Centre for Nuclear Energy, France and Visiting Professor of Department of Radiobiology, Ohio University, United State of America Mr. Sohan Modak.

With an objective to provide the vast spectrum of knowledge not only from the domain management but from the areas such as Scientific Research, History, Music, Photography and many more, MILE provided us this lifetime opportunity to know the thoughts of an eminent scientist of our country. He spoke about the central dogma of molecular biology which included amino acid formation, peptide chain formation, and replication of DNA and inheritance theory. Apart from that, he briefly explained the new innovations and developments in the field of Biotechnology such as Genetically Modified crops, foods and organisms and creation of genetically produced drugs for fatal genetic disorders.

We came to know about an entirely new domain of research. He also spoke about the relation and scope of biotechnology with management.

Mr. Gaurav Chopra

The student managers of MILE were provided a platform where they interacted with the Vice President (HR), HSBC Bank.

He gave an insight on HSBC one of the leading global financial services organization whose major areas of expertise in India are Personal Banking, Non Resident Indian Banking, Financial Planning Services, Corporate Banking, Business Banking, Payments and Cash Management, Trade (international and domestic) and Factoring Services, Institutional Banking, Treasury and Capital Markets, Custody and Clearing. He also spoke about the work culture and various hierarchies in a commercial bank. He mainly emphasized on various HR functions in a bank.

We got to know the complexity of work in a global organization. He gave us a glimpse of various parameters used by recruiters while hiring.

Mr. Mustafa Raj

The student managers of MILE got the opportunity to interact with the Head of HR & Administrative Function of Foseco India Mr. Mustafa Raj.

Foseco has been associated with the metals Industry for over 75 years and today is renouned as a world leader in the supply of consumable products for use in the foundry industry. He gave an overview of HR functions in an organization such as Recruiting, Hiring, Training, Organization Development, Communication, Performance Management, Salary and Benefits, Team Building and Employee Relations Leadership. He also explained the role of a HR function and its relevance in different industries.

In a nutshell, it was an outstanding and knowledgeable experience for students which left them with so many things to grasp and implement.

Mr. Mridul Kanti Nath

The students of MILE got an opportunity to interact with the Associate Vice President (Human Resources) MAERSK Sea Liners Ltd.

He elaborated on the concept of logical intelligence and its requirement in the various functions of an organization like marketing, finance, operations and HR. Students got to know that how logical intelligence could be a relevant factor in giving them an edge over the others in today's highly competitive industry. He explained that creativity and out of the box thinking are the key elements which are desirable in management students.

He also elucidated one of the main functional aspects of Human Resource Management i.e. HR Planning. He said that a systematic approach to match the interest, skills and talents of individuals with the long term goals of the organization is the main function of HR department.

Students got a deeper perspective of the HR function through this guest lecture.

Dr. Anand Karve

MILE celebrated World Earth Day on 22nd April 2010 with Dr. Anand Karve who is not only the director of Appropriate Rural Technology Institute (ARTI), which was founded in 1996, but also a recipient of the International Ashden Award for Renewable Energy.

Dr. Karve spoke about contemporary environmental issues like global warming, ozone hole, increased Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and scope of renewable energy sources in the future. He explained the significance and future perspective of wind energy, solar energy, geothermal energy and biofuels. He stressed on the need to conserve the non-renewable energy sources like coal, petroleum and natural gas. He also spoke about the key objectives of ARTI like the developing, popularizing and commercializing of innovative rural technologies' to improve the quality of life and standard of living of the rural residents of India.

This session created awareness amongst students about their responsibility towards planet earth.

Mr. Sundeep Kriplani

An interactive session was organized by MILE for its students with the Managing Director of Credit Suisse India, a global financial organization with its headquarters in Zurich (Switzerland).

He gave a general overview on the various management functions in an integrated global bank but emphasized on the financial aspects more. He shared his rich experience of Investment Banking and Management Consulting as he has worked with various Multinational financial firms like Goldman Sachs and Accenture in the past. He explained various functions of a financial firm like Debt Analysis, Credit Risk Management, Collateral Management and Inventory Management.

He highlighted the prominence of soft skills like Organizational Leadership, People Leadership, Collaborative Leadership and Core values. We also got an insight of Banking and Financial Services Industry (BFSI).

Mr. Sohag Sarkar

The student managers of MILE were provided a platform where they interacted with Mr. Sohag Sarkar, the Senior Consultant of KPMG Advisory Services Pvt. Ltd.

He spoke about his vast experience in consultancy, ranging from IBM Business Consulting Services to KPMG. He enlightened the students about the scope and challenges of consultancy as a career. It was an interactive session as the students were very anxious and inquisitive to know all there was about consulting. Mr Sarkar also gave a perspective on the job opportunities available in the industry for fresh MBA Graduates and candidates with work experience in consulting. In terms of knowledge this session was extremely enriching as the students gained valuable information and updates of the current corporate scenario.

Mr. Pritam Onsker

The student managers of MILE were provided wth a platform where they interacted with the Regional Enterprise Sales Head- Tata communications, Mr. Onsker, who was earlier associated with some of the leading companies like Reliance Telecom, Hughes Telecom, Crompton & Greaves to name a few.

He spoke about Enterprise Data and Voice Solutions in the Telecom Industry. He started the session with the evolution of telecommunication in India and the different stages it went through to establish it as one of the fastest growing industry. He spoke about the latest development and major changes in telecom industry during the last decade. He also spoke about the latest 3-G technology which is still in its initial stages.

In a nut shell, the session was interactive and it enlightened the students with the latest updates of telecom sector.
